Literacy

The school uses the JollyPhonics scheme throughout all Key Stages. Jolly Phonics is a comprehensive programme, based on the proven, fun and muliti-sensory synthetic phonics method that gets children reading and writing from an early age. This means that we teach letter sounds as opposed to the alphabet.

The KS2 classes use the Accelerated Reader scheme as well as participating in Guided Reading sessions with homework books. Children recieve word count prizes based on the amount of words they read and get to visit Glenullin shop.

Our P.3 classes participate in a Paired Reading scheme with parents to encourage healthy reading habits.
